I’ve been to plenty of big sporting events, from NBA Finals to World Series clinchers and numerous World Cup games, but I don’t think any of them could match the opener in Soccer City today for sheer joy, or for volume of NOISE. These South Africans love their Bafana Bafana, and they love their vuvuzelas. I will drop a few pictures here and follow up in the morning with a more extensive post, because I am absolutely spent. Six hours of absorbing 120 decibels is physically exhausting, not to mention the mental energy expending in planning and executing this venture, for myself, the Boy… and Sports Illustrated. An amazing start to the tournament.
